Leadership

A new national institute of health leadership has been developed, following a forum hosted by HWNZ which brought together 200 senior representatives from across the health sector.

Attendees at the forum in Wellington in June 2010 focused on the future of clinical leadership and acknowledged the need for more support and investment in clinical leaders.

The concept of creating a New Zealand institute of health leadership was strongly endorsed by a wide range of stakeholders. As a result, HWNZ moved quickly to facilitate the first phase of institute establishment.

The new institute has been announced as the New Zealand Centre of Excellence in Health Care Leadership and will draw on existing initiatives to establish programmes for clinical, managerial and executive leadership at all levels.

The institute host has been confirmed as the University of Auckland and Phase One of implementation of the institute will commence in early 2011.
