Demonstration sites launched and regulations gazetted for diabetes nurse prescribing project
11 April 2011
Minister of Health, Tony Ryall launched the four demonstration sites for the diabetes nurse prescribing project at Auckland District Health Board on April 7.
The regulations to enable registered nurses practising in diabetes health to become designated prescribers were gazetted on Thursday 24 March and have been published on the New Zealand Legislation website.
Following that, the education and training requirements for the nurses were gazetted by the Nursing Council. This allows for the first time suitably qualified nurses, other than Nurse Practitioners, to be able to prescribe medication for their patients.
The four demonstration sites are Hawke’s Bay, Mid Central Health, Hutt Valley and Auckland DHBs. Read the full release here or see our Diabetes Nurse Prescribing page for more information about the project.
