Career planning has benefits for everyone. No matter where you are in your career, developing a career plan holds real value in ensuring you get the career and lifestyle outcomes you want.
The following links provide specific career planning information for:
- Medical Students - it’s never too early to begin thinking about your future career.
- Resident Medical Officers (RMOs)-completing a career plan will help you identify what is most important to you and may influence your later choices on what areas you want to work in within your chosen specialty
- Medical Specialists – you may be quite settled and happy in your career, and just looking to continue on learning new techniques, finding out about the latest developments in treatment, and getting better and better at what you do. Or you may be ready to plan your end of career strategy.
You might also want to get some guidance from someone outside of your workplace or to get a second opinion. HWNZ has established a career guidance service for medical students and RMOs. This service is designed to complement the relationship you may already have with you professional educational supervisor or your manager, or others. It's to give you access to other professionals who have either already chose the path you're considering or who can offer you guidance for the next steps you can take.
