Our work

Annual Plan

Health Workforce New Zealand (HWNZ) was set up in late 2009 to provide national leadership on the development of the country's health and disability workforce.

We provide oversight for the planning of the healthcare workforce, ensuring that this aligns with planning for the delivery of services and that our healthcare workforce is fit for purpose. We advise the Minister of Health on all aspects of health workforce planning, within the wider programme of reform of the health system.

Our aim is to work in collaboration with training providers, professional bodies and employers, to build on existing networks and to create new opportunities to involve clinicians and health care providers in planning our future workforce.

We have a diverse range of work programmes, building on initiatives already underway to ensure that New Zealand has a high quality, flexible and diverse workforce.

We will also publish a yearly review of each annual plan and these reviews can be found on the publications and reports page.
