Health Workforce New Zealand was set up in 2009 to lead and co-ordinate the planning and development of the country’s health and disability workforce.

We aim to ensure that we have a fit-for-purpose, high quality and motivated health workforce, keeping pace with clinical innovations and the growing needs and expectations of service users and the public.

We advise the Minister of Health on all aspects of health workforce planning and work in collaboration with training providers, professional bodies and employers so that the development of the health and disability workforce is informed by those providing services.

We support healthcare employers to make the best use of existing resources and to realise the full potential of their workforce. We aim to promote the NZ health sector as an exciting and challenging place to work and to enable improved career opportunities for existing and future staff of all disciplines and from all parts of the community.

Our work is overseen by an independent board and is organised into three teams: investment relationships and purchasing; innovations and intelligence and planning.

We are currently developing our website and we welcome your feedback on all aspects of the site; tell us what you think by emailing info@healthworkforce.govt.nz.
